An unofficial update

I’ve been meaning to get a new release out (if you wish to help out, you can review the changes here) based on an unofficial updated published which adds high sierra (and catalina) support.

Since I’m not yet done, please check out the forum thread over here if you want to use the (mostly untested) release.

Other users have reported success, so I feel it is a step forward.

Alpha Release (2016-04-21)

We’ve updated the wine package to no longer lock you to Stable (Fallback). Stable and Cutting-Edge should now both work.

Note that this is an alpha release and may outright not run. This release is more for people who want to tinker while we figure out the remaining issues (namely, why it won’t run for some people…) If you do manage to get it running, it should be relatively stable and playable though.

As per last time, you will need to allow the app access to run for the first time. You can do this by right-clicking the osu! bundle (after extracting from the zip) and clicking Open. Full instructions are available here.

Things to note:

Stable Release (2015-10-17)

Here’s the promised stable release, supporting El Capitan. Yes, we are still running under wine, but we are working in parallel on a native version (it’s just not quite ready yet)!

Note that you will need to allow the app access to run the first time you run it. You can do this by right-clicking the osu! bundle (after extracting from the dmg) and clicking Open. Full instructions are available here.

super-temporary-alpha-release

For those who just can’t wait to play, here’s a working release with a few issues:

If you download this version, all of these issues should be fixed in an automatic update coming tomorrow. If you’re not in a hurry, wait until tomorrow for a 100% stable download.

You will need to allow the app from an unsigned source. This will be the case even for future releases for now, due to the way osu! updates internally.

Note that this is still using the stable (.net 2.0) release. I tried to get Beta/CE working, but there are some issues with GL contexts which we need to resolve before taking this path.

You’ve been warned! Download here.

Introduction

Currently it’s hard for users to keep up with the latest information on updates for the OS X release of osu!. I’ve made this blog to keep the flow of information easy to access for OS X users.

While osu! does update itself, sometimes it is required that we release new app bundles for better compatibility. All information on such releases will be contained in this blog.

Initial information on a release which supports El Capitan (and older operating systems) will be up this week. Sorry to keep you waiting so long!
